Class Description: this popular class will impower you to begin to alter your own wardrobe to your style.  Let’s sew together!

In this class, you will learn the following:

  • Measuring your inseam & out seam to obtain a custom fit
  • Alterations hacks that will save you time & money
  • The most popular types of hems to be installed such as (NOTE: only 1 of these are taught in class; usually it’s the one that is currently on the garment needing alterations / hemming)

Fold-over hem

Serge & sew hem

Roll hem

Blind stitch hem

Class Cost: $65

Prerequisite: The Sewing Station Basic Sewing 101 and 102

Specific Material List: 

·         Sewing Machine (including any tools that come with your machine)

·         Sewing Machine Manual (if you do not have a printed-out copy, please be prepared to bring a downloaded version)

·         Thread

·         Bobbins for your Machine (note: always check the package of bobbins when purchasing to ensure that your sewing machine model appears for usage)

·         Universal, Overlock/Serge, Roll Hem and/or Blind Stitch Pressor Foot (only 1 is required per the type of hem that will be performed on your dress, skirt or shirt)

·         Machine Needles per your machine; both single & double needles (note: always check the package of needles when purchasing to ensure that your sewing machine model appears for usage)

·         Sewing Machine Toolbox (Note: all can be available at The Sewing Station Learning Center Online Boutique or NWSC):

o   Hand Stitch Needles

o   Scissors for cutting fabric

o   Snippers for cutting threads

o   Seam ripper

o   Tape measure and/or ruler

o   Straight Pins (25)

·         Fabrics -

o   Student brings in 1 garment (a dress, skirt or shirt) that requires alterations / hemming (lengthening or shortening)
